In her project, Nicola will determine the role of trace gases and the microbes that consume them in the development of volcanic soils. She will also determine the metabolic pathways common to trace-gas metabolising microbes, particularly Ktedonobacterales, inhabiting volcanic soils. She will join sampling campaigns in Llaima and Antuco volcanoes, Chile, and start different enrichment strategies.
